APS frequently asked questions
How does the APS trial work? Do I need a different installer after purchasing?

The same APS installer is used for the trial and the licensed app. In trial mode, APS closes after 20 minutes. You can restart it and try again as many times as you like.

Activate an APS licence to remove the time limit; no new download is needed. Releasing the licence returns APS to trial mode.

How many APS licences do I need for multiple computers?

Each computer running APS at the same time needs its own APS licence to run without the trial time limit. For example, three presentation computers used simultaneously need three APS licences.

If you use APS on only one computer at a time, you can transfer an APS licence between computers as needed. See licences and activation for details.

How do I update APS?

APS notifies you when an update is available, and you can update from within the app. You can also download the latest installer above. Update APS on each presentation computer and allow time to test your setup before a show.

Read the APS release notes for recent changes.

Do I need PowerPoint or a PowerPoint plugin?

Install PowerPoint on each presentation computer that will show PowerPoint files. APS communicates with PowerPoint without a plugin. APS does not include PowerPoint or its licence.

For other presentation formats, check the APS requirements above for the applications needed on each presentation computer.

Does APS need an internet connection?

APS can run local presentations offline after licence activation. You need internet access for downloads, updates, licence activation and online content or services such as the online timer.

Where should I download an official copy of APS?

Use the APS download links on this page at aps.presentationtools.com or the update feature in APS. If you are unsure about an installer, contact PresentationTools before installing it.

What is the difference between Auto Presentation Switcher and APS Hub?

Auto Presentation Switcher (APS) runs on each presentation computer and switches and controls the presentations and media shown on its output.

APS Hub is a free, optional controller for APS. It lets you monitor and control APS computers from a browser, transfer files and coordinate computers with Presentation Sync and Clicker Distributor. Hub does not replace APS. APS carries out the commands on each presentation computer.

Do I need APS Hub to keep using APS?

No. APS continues to work on its own, and you can keep using your existing APS setup. Add Hub if you want its browser controls or tools for coordinating several computers. See the APS Hub overview for more.

Do I still need to download APS if I already have APS Hub?

Yes. Install and run Auto Presentation Switcher on every presentation computer, including backups and confidence-screen computers. Installing Hub does not install APS or remove its trial time limit.

Hub is free and needs no separate licence. A computer used only to run Hub does not need APS or an APS licence. If it will also run presentations, install both apps and license APS for use without the trial time limit.

Where should I install APS Hub? Do I need it on every computer?

For a typical setup, install Hub on one control computer and connect it to the computers running APS. This can be a separate laptop or one of your presentation computers; you do not need Hub on every APS computer.

Open Hub’s control page in a browser on that computer or another device on the same local network, including a tablet. A device used only to view the control page does not need either app installed. Hub works over your local network without internet access, but the Hub desktop app must stay running. Follow the Hub installation guide to get started.

Can APS Hub control both Mac and Windows computers?

Yes. Hub on either platform can control a mix of Mac and Windows computers running APS. Use APS 4.5 or later for basic control and Presentation Sync; older versions may have fewer controls or less detailed feedback. Folder-content verification, direct folder uploads, deletion and media-layering controls require APS Hub 1.0.1 with APS for Mac 4.5 (57) or APS for Windows 4.5.0.2, or later updates. Font checking, remote font installation and Restart PowerPoint require APS Hub 1.1 with APS 4.6 or later. The full font scan is available with APS for Mac.

Each presentation computer needs its own copy of the content and an application that can open it. A Keynote presentation still needs a Mac with Keynote. See Hub compatibility and requirements.

I installed APS Hub. How do I open its controls and check for updates?

Launch APS Hub and choose Open Control Page in its welcome window. To reopen the controls later, find the red Hub icon in the Mac menu bar or Windows system tray near the clock, then choose Open Control Page. On Windows, the icon may be under the hidden-icons arrow. Closing the browser does not quit Hub.

Hub checks for updates when it starts. You can also choose Check for Updates… from its menu or use the Hub download links above. Updating Hub does not update APS on your presentation computers. See the installation guide and Hub release notes.
